Jazz fans in South Devon are due for a treat when a giant of the UK jazz scene pays a rare visit to the South West at Teignmouth’s Bronx bar on 25th March. A master of all four members of the sax family and jazz flute he divides his time as a performer and educator (including the Royal College of Music ). London born Andy has been at the top of the game for many years. With a string of awards behind him he is in demand across the music industry. Performing and recording with many stellar singers such as; Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Georgie Fame, and Zoot Money to name a few.
In the jazz world he has played with, among others, Abdulla Ibrahim (Dollar Brand), Freddie Hubbardand Billy Cobham. Teignmouth can welcome him though in his own right. Playing a mix of his compositions, jazz originals and standards he is sure to delight any jazz fan, especially if he peppers the gig with some Gerry Muligan numbers from his recently acclaimed project about the Baritone legend.
For those who don’t know the Bronx Bar upstairs. It is a perfect setting for a gig like this. Whether standing, sitting or enjoying a meal one can feel the cool ambience of old school jazz club but without the Gauloise fumes.
