Teign Jazz and Blues are delighted to host Dominic (a rising star in the contemporary UK scene) and his quartet on his current tour.
Dominic Ingham is a British violinist and composer who seeks to combine violin techniques from his folk and classical background, in order to create a unique way of playing jazz violin. In 2020, he was a semifinalist in the Zbigniew Seifert International Jazz Violin Competition.
As well as leading his own quartet and quintet, Dominic is currently a member of Bonsai, who are ‘one of the most talked about and critically acclaimed young bands on the UK scene’. He has toured extensively across the UK and Europe, playing at prestigious venues/festivals such as Ronnie Scotts, Love Supreme, Heaven, The Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican and EFG London Jazz Festival, as well as at the 2019 Teignmouth Jazz and Blues Festival.
In 2020 Dominic released his debut album ‘Role Models’ to critical acclaim (see a few of the reviews above). It features Jonny Mansfield (2018 Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize winner) on vibraphone, Scottish pianist David Swan, Will Sach (NYC) on bass and Boz Martin-Jones on drums. The album was produced by renowned UK drummer James Maddren (with whom Dominic studied with at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama) and was engineered by fellow Yorkshireman and grammy nominated engineer, Sonny Johns. These rising stars on the UK jazz scene join Dominic in embarking upon an adventurous journey through seven of his original compositions; each of them inspired by new music from the likes of Ambrose Akinmusire, Walter Smith III and Camilla Meza, amongst others. CDs will be available on the night!
