Duncan eagles and the DE 4tet

Date: 27/02/2019

If you read the reviews you will know that British jazz is on a roll at the moment with the big cities overflowing with new clubs, gigs and musicians. In the vanguard of young hugely talented performers is saxophonist Duncan Eagles who has left London for a few weeks on tour. His reviews are constantly outstanding. The Guardian says:-“[he] holds the stage with his attractively dry tone, sharpness and the urgent ferocity of his tenor improvising”. While critic Mike Flynn maintains “Eagles is fast becoming one of the most exciting players emerging on the UK jazz scene”.
TJB member Nikki Marsh had a preview of his gig when visiting a packed Clapham Omnibus Club recently and wrote. “Virtuosic sax playing from Duncan Eagles all in a very understated style.  An extraordinary first CD which is really distinctive.”. Duncan first gained his reputation as a core member of the acclaimed group, Partikel. Now with his own quartet he is launching his first album ‘Citizen’ this month, and his tour includes the London Barbican on 18th with a return later to Ronnie Scots.
In between Teignmouth welcomes him as the first gig of TJB’s exciting 30th Anniversary year. It will be a great night with a trio backing him consisting of some of the busiest (and best) musicians on the scene in the form of Matt Robinson – Piano, Max Luthert Bass and Dave Hamblett – Drums.
