Teignmouth Jazz kick off the New Year with yet another outstanding gig starring Britain’s ‘Jelly Roll Kings’, the Sons of the Delta Band (www.sonsofthedelta.co.uk) who will be playing at Teignmouth’s own downtown Bronx Bar on Thursday, 18th February (8pm). The Band were a sell out at last year’s Jazz and Blues Festival and it only seemed polite to invite them back for an encore. Blues fans will be glad to know also that Blues will feature strongly in 2016 with a new policy from Teignmouth Jazz to promote an alternating monthly programme of jazz and blues bands.
For those not in the know this is an outstanding four piece band with an enviable reputation. Formed by two of the top Bluesmen in the South-West, Mark Cole (vocals, harp, slide guitar) and Rick Edwards (guitar, vocals). They soon expanded and added drums (Martin Fitzgibbon) and electric and stand-up bass (Lyndon Webb). The result?:- An earthy, passionate blend of electric/acoustic Juke Joint and Delta Blues flavoured with the many roots music styles from the southern states of the USA – from delicate, intimate acoustic numbers to full on house-rockin’ electric Blues.
It is a sound appreciated worldwide with tours and plaudits across Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia. Ian D Hall of Liverpool Sound & Vision writes “An utter thrill and amongst the best of British Blues you are likely to hear all year.” While more succinctly, Paul Jones on BBC Radio 2 simply said they were “fantastic”:- and he should know!
Tickets will be available on the door but fans may also be keen to pre-book on www.ticketsource.co.uk/teignmouthjazzandblues.
Just to get you in the mood remember that the Bronx Bar is perfect place for dogs, ribs and ‘gators washed down by steam beer. So grease your lips before y’all hear those licks!
